Reg Evans (1938-2024)
We are sharing news of the passing of Reginald “Reg” Evans, an advocate for the game, master technician and tactician and dedicated youth coach in our state. Evans died Oct. 20, 2024, at age 86 in Edmonds.
A native of Birmingham, England, Evans and his family came to the Seattle area to work at Boeing in 1968. He immediately began playing for Boeing’s state league team and shortly thereafter also began coaching his children’s teams.
Evans coached Continental Volvo Blues to a boys’ state U17 championship in 1976. Later, he and Dick Henderson joined forces to guide H&L Sports to numerous state premier league titles, plus a U17 state cup championship in 1983. Several members of that club went on to play for the state select team and colleges. He was also a longtime staff coach at Northwest Soccer Camp.
Evans became coach of the Meadowdale High School boys, Edmonds girls (state runners-up in 1986) and Edmonds Community College men (1981 NWAC champions). He also conducted USSF coaching license courses around the state.
