Partners: Sounders & WA Legends
(October 5, 2023) Washington State Legends of Soccer is now a proud museum and cultural partner to Seattle Sounders FC. WA Legends is providing resources and expertise, specifically in celebration of the Sounders’ 50th anniversary season through 2024.
“On behalf of our board, I am thrilled about our Sounders partnership,” states Frank Gallo, WA Legends board president. “Not only will this be a momentous 50th anniversary in 2024, next year the Sounders will move into their new Longacres headquarters and practice facility. We want to express our gratitude to the Sounders for supporting WA Legends in honoring soccer’s development in our state: preserving our history, especially memories and interviews of key figures from the past; celebrating our achievements and those who made them possible; and inspiring future opportunities for generations to come.”
In the past, WA Legends has collaborated with the Sounders on exhibits and celebrations, including the 50th anniversary celebration of Title IX’s enactment in 2022, as well as many of the organization’s community events and game day booths at Lumen Field and The NINETY over the years.
There will be expanded activations in 2024 as our community joins the Sounders in marking 50 years of professional soccer in our state.
“The Sounders’ support will help WA Legends continue to co-sponsor events honoring important figures in soccer’s development as well as our innovative online museum ,” adds Gallo, “and it’s our intention to seize this opportunity and create further momentum going into the 2026 FIFA World Cup and those matches here in Seattle.
